How it Works

Reverse Austin has two primary services:
1. We measure your things
2. We help you use measurements to do other things

What kind of things do we measure? We can measure almost anything that we can walk around or pick up so long as it doesn't change shape or size while we're measuring it.

Some of the things we can measure:
  • Everyday items: buttons, bottles, books, balls, boxes, bedpans, broomsticks, birdhouses, boomerangs, (you get the idea)
  • Cars, trucks, motorcycles, boats, etc
  • Sculptures and other 3 dimensional art
  • Antiques and coins
  • Archeological artifacts and hieroglyphs
  • Anatomical parts that don't change shape: ears for instance
  • Cadaver parts and skeletons
  • Machine parts
  • Tools and fixtures
  • And a lot of other stuff

What kind of measurements do we make? We collect precise 3 dimensional measurements at a rate of 25,000 points per second and collect enough data to create highly accurate 3 dimensional computer models of the items being measured.

Why computer models? Today, almost everything is designed, manufactured and documented using computers and computer models. Drawing boards and electric erasers (yes, we had electric erasers way back when) have been replaced by the mouse and keyboard. Manual lathes and mills have been replaced by computer driven machine tools. Today, there are even 3 dimensional printers that can print parts using powdered or liquid plastic.

We create highly accurate 3 dimensional computer models.
Capturing your data and converting it to a computer model is only the first step. Reverse Austin can help you use the model to design mating parts, new and improved parts, fixtures, tooling, etc. We can also compare the measured model to the design model so that you can determine whether or not the measured part meets the design intent. We can convert the model so you can use it for movies and video games. We can also use the model to create your formal documentation for the purpose of identification, reproduction and regulatory compliance.

Just as word processors, databases and electronic spreadsheets have changed how we use 2 dimensional data, Digital Shape Sampling and Processing (DSSP) is changing how we collect and utilize 3 dimensional data. Reverse Austin is at the forefront of this technology and strives to find new ways to help you leverage your information.

Let us show you how we can help you become more productive by using the information that you already have. Contact info@reverseaustin.com and discover The Shapes of Things to Come.
